Hi, I'm Ben.
I'm based in Ontario. I'm a computer science student in the honours program at Brock University, and I play goalie for the Brock men's hockey team. In between, I build software for the kind of organizations most software companies overlook.
Why small businesses and municipalities
Big organizations have IT departments. A parks and recreation department, a community hall, a family-run business: they usually have one person who is good with computers, a shared spreadsheet, and a lot of things that get done by memory. That's who I build for.
The work these organizations do matters to a lot of people, and their time is worth protecting. Good software for them isn't clever. It's plain, it does the job in fewer steps than the old way, and it doesn't fall over when the one person who set it up goes on vacation.
How Park Patrol came about
Park Patrol started with municipal outdoor operations: crews looking after parks, trails, rinks and facilities, where every shift produces a record that someone needs to be able to find later. Paper logs and text messages don't survive a question from council six months on. A shared, dated record of what happened on every shift does.
How RoomSet came about
RoomSet came from watching venues lay out rooms by hand: sketching tables on a photocopied floor plan, counting chairs, then redrawing it when the renter changed their mind. RoomSet puts the venue's real floor plan on screen, draws the layout to scale, and shares it with the renter as a link. The venue stops redrawing and the renter stops guessing.

You deal with me directly, from the first call through to the last change. I quote in writing before work starts, I explain things in plain language, and if I think software won't solve your problem, I'll say so.
